Half-Time 2012
Jan. 07, 2012

FFA members from all over Wisconsin participated in the Half-Time Conference in Steven’s Point, beginning with registration yesterday and the final session this afternoon!

Friday afternoon, members attended the opening session that included opening ceremonies, the skit titled Destination: Unknown performed by the state officers, four workshops about personal growth, a dance or movie and reflections.

This morning the students attended workshops about developing their chapter’s chapters, a keynote speech from two past state officers, Mr. Wehling, the agriculture teacher at Mondovi, and Mr. Reinders, the agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Loyal. To finish off the conference, Ethan gave his President’s Challenge and door prizes were given out before the students and advisors headed for home.

Thank you to all the members who attended, advisors and others who brought students to the conference, and all who helped the 2012 Half-Time Conference run smoothly! You all helped make the conference the experience it was.

2012 Is Underway!
Jan. 04, 2012

I hope everyone had a great holiday season! My favorite thing about the holidays is the chance to spend time with family and friends. I am blessed to have had a lot of fun with family and friends during the holidays!

As 2012 is has begun with New Year's Resolutions and a fresh start, FFA is picking up pace again with the Half-Time Conference! On Friday and Saturday, FFA members from chapters all around Wisconsin will be going to Steven's Point to attend the conference. This year's theme for the conference is Destination: Unknown. Half-Time 2012 is sure to be a great experience for all attending.

Have a great week!

December Is Here!
Dec. 06, 2011

Hello Everyone,

On Saturday December 3, the team headed to Wisconsin Dells for the State Farm Bureau Meeting. This was a cool experience, because my parents have been involved with the Eau Claire County Farm Bureau and have attended the state meeting before, but I didn’t understand what they were doing until I actually had the opportunity to go and experience it for myself. Something else that was interesting about the meeting was that we timed the Discussion Meet competition. It was cool to see a discussion meet, because the contest had been described to me before, but I didn’t completely understand it until I saw it in action.

This week, the state officer team is in Marshfield for our December Meeting. We are planning for Half-Time and the rest of the year!

Chippewa Falls Chapter Visit
Dec. 06, 2011

Hello Everyone,

Time flies by so quickly! On Tuesday, November 29, I had my last chapter visit for 2011 in Chippewa Falls. The day was filled with more agriculture students and FFA members. The day went well and it was nice to be at a school near home.

Colfax and Eau Claire Visits
Nov. 16, 2011

On Monday, I had a chapter visit in Colfax. The morning started off by me tripping and falling down our steps, which resulted in a twisted ankle. Though my morning didn’t start off on the right foot, it did improve a lot! My visit went well and I received a beautiful Christmas cactus from the Colfax FFA Chapter. Thank you!

Today, I traveled to Eau Claire for my second and final chapter visit for this week. My morning started off at Eau Claire North High School with two classes. Then Ms. Hildebrandt and I went to Eau Claire Memorial High School for the rest of the day. It was nice to have a visit near home and to be able to learn more about their chapter!

212 & 360 Conferences
Nov. 16, 2011

The 212° and 360° Conferences were held in Steven’s Point. The conferences started off on Friday night and were followed by a celebration for Alicia Hodnik, our Central Region Vice President, and a dance.

The sessions were awesome! I had the opportunity to sit in a lot of the 212 Conference sessions where we talked about personal, mental, emotional, physical, and social growth. The national presenters did an awesome job with the conference and I am sure every student who came to the conference learned something.

The conference came to a close on Saturday afternoon. It was truly a success with over 600 members in attendance!

Three More Visits!
Nov. 16, 2011

On Tuesday, November 8, I traveled to the Eleva-Strum High School for my second chapter visit of the week. I had groups ranging from a small number high school students to a large group of 8th grade students. After presenting to all of Mr. Behm’s classes, I was able to eat lunch with their officer team and learn more about their chapter.

On Wednesday, November 9, I went to Plum City. The town is very small and so is the high school, which has about 80 students. I presented to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science classes in the morning. Then I ate lunch with their officers and some of Ms. Skogen’s activity students. The high school classes I had in the afternoon were small and ranged from three to five students.

On Thursday, November 10, I made my way to Elmwood for my last chapter visit of the week. During this visit, I also presented to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science classes as well as high school classes of Plant Science and Food Science. During lunch, I met with the officer team and talked about the activities they do as well as new ideas they could do with their chapter.

Durand Chapter Visit
Nov. 16, 2011

On Monday, November 7, my first chapter visit of the week was in Durand. I presented to two Plant Science classes. I also had the opportunity to meet with their officer team and talk about their Program of Activities and activities they do now as well as some they would like to start.

Boyceville Chapter Visit
Nov. 16, 2011

On Thursday, November 3, I traveled to Boyceville for my last chapter visit of the week. The 8th and 9th grade students that I presented to had a lot of energy, but my time there went well.

Spring Valley Chapter Visit
Nov. 16, 2011

On Wednesday, November 2, I went to Spring Valley for my next chapter visit. I presented to classes throughout the morning and spent a class period talking with their officer team. It was a great opportunity to learn about their chapter and talk about some of the activities they do.

St. Croix Central Chapter Visit
Nov. 16, 2011

On Tuesday, November 1, I had a chapter visit at St. Croix Central in Hammond. Throughout the day, there were a number of students that repeated a class with Mr. Emery. I had the chance to meet chapter officers and learn more about their chapter throughout the day.

More Chapter Visits
Nov. 05, 2011

On Tuesday, October 25, I had a chapter visit in New Richmond. The students participated well and were very receptive to the activities and messages. I got to see the wildlife habitat projects that the Wildlife Management classes are working on and listen to some of the Large Animal Science presentations on different breeds and types of animals. I also got to eat lunch with a couple FFA members and learn a little bit more about their chapter.

On Wednesday, October 26, I traveled to Ellsworth for another chapter visit. I had a chance to meet a couple of their officers. It was great learning more about their chapter as well as some of the activities they have been to during their FFA careers. The day went by quickly and before I knew it, I was on my way home again.

On Thursday, October 27, I went to the Baldwin-Woodville High School for my last chapter visit of the week. The students were a lot of fun and the day went smoothly. I even got sent home with two pumpkins and one of their awesome, blaze orange, chapter t-shirts! Thank you!

The Last Day of Nat'l Convention
Oct. 25, 2011

October 22 was sadly the last day of the 84th National FFA Convention. The morning started with the 8th Convention Session in the Lucas Oil Stadium where the Stars Over America were announced and the American Degree Ceremony took place. During that session, we also had the opportunity to listen to a speech from the United States Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack. Once the session was over, we had the opportunity to walk through the Collegiate Career Expo and meet with business leaders and learn about different opportunities they have to offer with their companies. After going through the Collegiate Career Expo, we ate lunch before returning to the Conseco Field House for the Closing Convention Session.

At the last session, the delegate reports were read, Career Development Events were announced, Riley Pagett gave his retiring address, and the New National Officers were announced and installed. As many of you may know, we did have Alicia Hodnik as our National Officer Candidate this year. She made the first cut and was one of the people, along with everyone from Wisconsin, waiting to hear her name called that night. As the announcer came over the speakers and announced this year's new officer team, Alicia was named as the Central Region Vice President! She is now one of the six 2011-2012 National FFA Officers representing the 540,379 FFA members from across our nation and the only girl on the team!

Once the session was adjourned, it was time to say goodbye to all the people we had met over the past week and throughout our year so far. After our goodbyes were said, we went back to our hotel to change out of Official Dress, load the bus and start traveling home.

I absolutely cannot believe how fast National Convention has already come and gone by. Many wonderful memories were made and new friendships and bonds were created throughout the week. I would definitely say that the 84th National FFA Convention was AWESOME and that I am sad to say that it is over. Though I am very sad that National Convention is done for this year, I can honestly say that it was good to come home. This was definitely an experience that I will remember FOREVER.

Nat'l Convention on 10/21
Oct. 25, 2011

On Friday morning we attended the 4th Convention Session, but instead of sitting and watching all of the Honorary Degree Recipients, we went backstage to help carry boxes and direct them on how to get to where their picture would be taken.

Following the session, we ate lunch in small groups. After lunch, we went to the 5th Convention Session where the National Candidates who made it through the cut introduced themselves. Once that session was done, we had a little bit of time before the 6th Convention Session started. At the 6th Convention Session, the Proficiency Awards were announced.

After that session was done we ate dinner then walked back to the Conseco Field House for the last session of the day. During the 7th Convention Session, we had the opportunity to view something that is in my opinion pretty cool. We had the chance to see David Garibaldi paint two portraits of Jason Aldean and Albert Einstein live in just minutes. It was truly amazing. With this blog, I have included a picture of David Garibaldi with the Jason Aldean portrait that he painted during the session.
