Dells Fun!
Jan. 31, 2012

From hurricanes to rivers to dumping buckets and tubes- the Wilderness Resort in the Wisconsin Dells was awesome! I was able to go up to the Widlerness with 2 chapters this past weekend, Big Foot and East Troy. It was a blast! It was a good time to relax and celebrate the half way point of the year and reenergize for the rest of it. Our favorite ride was definitely the hurricane that made your stomach drop and made you scream like crazy!

Thank you to Big Foot FFA and East Troy FFA or inviting me!

School Board Convention
Jan. 31, 2012

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Wisconsin State School Board Convention. It was great to talk with School board members and administrators about the importance of Agricultural Education. It once again made me feel so lucky that I had a school that has Agricultural Education so that I could be involved in FFA. We must as FFA members continue to gain support for our FFA chapters and show school boards what we are all about.

Team Trip: Bahamas!
Jan. 16, 2012

Going from about 78 and sunny to 30 and snowy is quiet the shock! Well some of the Wisconsin State FFA Officers took a little trip to the Bahamas after Half-Time Conference. It was a great time to be around great friends and great weather.
Trip Top 5-
1. Weather
2. Spending time with friends
3. Food
4. Ocean
5. FUN!
We made it home safely and we are back to work ! I will be at the State School Board Convention this week and then head to 2 Winter Retreats with Big Foot and East Troy FFA!

Have a great week!

Destination: Unknown
Jan. 07, 2012

From Switzerland to Rome to Egypt to the Outback, to Liberia and South Africa and Nashville to Tokyo. We traveled to many “destinations” during Half-Time 2012 in Stevens Point, WI. At the conference we learned about how to prepare for our future destinations. “Not every traveler’s destination is known, but to step forward and try begins the greatest journey of all.”

364 Wisconsin FFA Members from all across the state gathered to attend the Half-Time FFA Conference and take the time to prepare for the second half of the year. We performed and enjoyed a skit, reflections and busted a move at the “Tacky Tourist” dance. Students attended workshops about service, teamwork, modeling expectations and planning events- just to name a few. It was an enjoyable weekend to grow as leaders in one of the greatest organizations around. We are the ones that choose our destinations and as we all left this conference we are one step closer to our destination and journey ahead.

Thanks for a great conference Wisconsin FFA!

Happy Holidays!
Dec. 22, 2011

The other day I went to purchase a few more Christmas items from Walmart- quite the crazy place this time of year. As I was shopping I wasn't quite in the Christmas spirit- as I left though, that all changed. As I was walking out I started to hear (from the other entrance) a group of children ringing bells. As they rang the bells for Salvation Army they shouted Merry Christmas, at the top of their lungs. Instantly I was in the Christmas spirit!
I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday filled with family, friends and food and many blessings. Thank you for a great 2011! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Well, the State Officer team was on the move again!

Then we headed to Marshfield for State Officer Meeting and Training. It was great to find out what is coming next in FFA for the next 6 months.

Goals
Nov. 29, 2011

Students, Advisors, Friends, Family, and everyone in between:

At many chapter visits we have talked about what holds us back. Sometimes we are held back by friends or family or what someone said.
"You can't go to college, you're not smart enough." "You are not pretty enough" "You can't sing" "You are just a farmer" "I can't I am not as good as them" "You can't play varsity, they're right, I can't".....The list goes on and on.....
We have all been told something like this along the line, or have told ourselves this, but as we decided in many of our visits this year- these "I can'ts" are not worth listening to. I have set a goal for myself to accomplish, to run a 5K race. For me, this is really difficult. Tonight, I started my training. I couldn't do as much as I thought, but I am okay with that. I thought for a little bit, "I can't do this, why am I doing this".
The goals we have are not always going to be easily reached, but that is what makes them worth it. It is going to be tough. I encourage all of you that are half way, or a tenth of the way to that goal, keep your head up and keep going, because "It's kind of fun to do the impossible".

It's cold outside!
Nov. 29, 2011

Well, well, well! It seems that I am a little late on wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I am very thankful to have met many amazing individuals this year and serve such a great organization. I hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and friends and enjoyed a good meal.
It sure is getting cold here in Wisconsin, but that means snow will be soon to come! I am excited for it to snow, it brings the Christmas spirit with all the decorations going up and music playing.

Monday I was in Lomira and had a wonderful time there! I will head to Lake Mills to end the last day of chapter visits until visiting Dodgeland and Hustisford in the spring! The end means new things to come, but it is also sad to be done with them. Then next week I will be heading north to the Dells for Farm Bureau Annual Meeting and December State Officer meeting.

Oconomowoc Chapter Visit
Nov. 21, 2011

Friday I had the absolute joy of being in Oconomowoc. It was an awesome day. The students are wonderful there, and the advisors are too! I truly enjoyed my day- with the classes and with the officers. When we set goals as a group it was cool to hear about and see some of the goals students wrote down. From moving out and living on your own, to getting into a good college, to becoming a pastor, these students set their goals and are committed to them. It was a wonderful way to end my week at Oconomowoc.

We decided, that we can throw away the “I can’ts” and “take one- a chance!” Don’t be afraid to take a chance- try something new, you never know where it might take you!
I hope to come back again soon!

I Believe in Influence
Nov. 17, 2011

Influence: The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something,
Influence is everywhere. We are affected by it daily, even if we are unaware of it. It has an effect on our character, development and behavior. At 360 Conference, FFA members, myself included learned about the steps of influence. Relationship building, trustworthy, deliberate, collaborating and being agents of change are the steps to influence. What influences are we following? Positive ones or negative ones? We “can exert an influence in our home and community which will stand solid for our part in that inspiring task”

Why do I believe in it? Because we are influenced in so many ways and by so many people around us. I have been influenced by peers, role models, friends, and most recently FFA members. FFA members have shared their passion with me and I LOVE IT! Today at Watertown FFA we talked a little bit about what We Believe. No matter what or who stop us we can always believe in ourselves and someone will believe in us. They said, “I believe in respect, I believe in leadership, I believe in teamwork, I believe in faith, I believe in trying new things, I believe in agricultural education”. And I, well I believe in FFA members!

Chapter Visits
Nov. 09, 2011

Wow! FFA members are awesome! I have had a great week so far and it is only Wednesday. Monday I was at Palmyra-Eagle High School visiting with them. They are doing great and have 30 paid members this year, a huge jump for them! Congratulations on that, great job officers and advisor Ms. Zimmerman! I can’t wait to see what they do in the future and the amount of members that join.

Yesterday I had a wonderful day in Hartford! Hartford is much bigger than East Troy, that is for sure!! With about 400 students in every graduating class, they have many members in FFA. It was a blast talking with them about opportunities in the FFA. We talked about opportunities, priorities and goals. I also was able to stay with a wonderful host family. They showed me around there dairy farm and explained different things to me, it was a great experience. I am very thankful and blessed to stay with families that truly see the value of FFA and Agriculture!

I will be at Slinger later today- it should be great!

Whitewater and Johnson Creek
Nov. 03, 2011

It has been a great week so far. I traveled to Whitewater on Tuesday to visit Whitewater FFA. They were a TON of fun to be around! I can’t wait to go back and visit. Many laughs went on throughout the day, and we all participated and learned a lot. They are going to have a lot of success this year and they are an affiliated chapter- every ag student is an FFA member!

Wednesday I headed to Johnson Creek- a small and cozy school. They may be small but they have a really great FFA and Agricultural program. I enjoyed being their and meeting students from the high school and middle school classes. They are going to do really well in the quiz bowl competition I can tell!

Horicon Chapter Visit
Oct. 30, 2011

"Success is doing what you can with what you have, where you are."
I was looking at some quotes the other day and found this one. Horicon FFA and Agricultural Program can be described as just that. They are a new program of 2 years and are going to do really well. It was fun to work with the middle school and high school students. They have a great greenhouse, ecology site, crop science project going on and some other animals. I can’t wait to see their success as they recruit members and try new things!
